AMD head Dirk Meyer said that the company is developing a platform that will have less power consumption and size, better functionality and a more affordable price than the Intel Atom. ‘Killer’ of Intel Atom samples must be received by AMD partners in the coming year.

Meyer mentioned that the products on the new platform will be notebooks rather than netbooks. Since netbooks continue to thicken, and the corresponding segment blurred, skewed towards notebooks, the head of AMD was confident that even the term of «netbook» with time will get out of use.

In the normal segment of notebooks the AMD position is provided by Puma platform, which will soon be replaced by Tigris. Yukon and the Congo platforms will focus on the segment of ultrathin models. In addition, the company is developing yet another mobile platform, which takes an intermediate position between the Yukon and the Congo.

According to Meyer, the ARM based platform will not be able to penetrate the market of notebooks due to lack of software support.
